Art School Tales and Woes

Abstract planar forms foam core, 12x18 Still-life collage Well, the semester is all but over. Evaluations and exams are winding down so I just thought I'd share what I've been doing with you. This semester was not my shiniest moment. Got behind and bogged down so I am not confident that I gave my best. Still think I could have done so much more. Time will tell if what I did do was enough to scrape me through. Cityscape, parallel/vertical line, 12x18, pen So much new stuff to grasp. This semester was a lot about technology. Worked with programs that I never worked with before, did things I've never done before. The beauty of learning is that that's what it's all about. God is still good. Be Blessed GretaMichelle

June Pots

Another month is here and so are new pots. Did some glazing fired at ^04. Will post pictures of those next week. Two new ^5 porcelain vases have been added to the set. I am preparing a number of porcelain pieces at cone 10 and 5, so they can all be glazed and fired in one load each. I played around with waving the top of these vases. This is the tallest I've ever thrown. (Yay me!) It's a little wonky but that just adds to the personality.

( My first plein aire ) After the Rain Oils 16x20 July 2008 Today I joined the American Artists community. While I was writing my hellos something occurred to me. It was only early last year that I started painting outdoors (en plein aire) It didn't seem such a short time. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my art. I've done many paintings that I don't show because I am not satisfied with the quality. I am sometimes very hard on myself because I feel like I should be somewhere else and I'm not there. When I look at other artists' works and see how they seem to capture their locations and paint with such pathos I feel the urge to hide my work even more. Today, though, I had one of Oprah's 'aha' moments. It took these artists years to develop the techniques and abilities they have now, in something that I've been doing for only one year so if I am not where I want to be yet I can cut myself some slack (easier said than done) All I have to do is ...
