Possibilities

Ever since I became more involved with the process working with clay I have wanted to make lamps. The inspiration and time never coincided until today.
I am playing with using natural objects to mimic natural textures. I use both rice and glass in this first experiment.
Still not in love with the overall shape yet but there's time to change.
Let's see what happens.
Please leave a comment, thanks

Last Thursday

Just an update. Still no working kiln but I continue to work. Here are two pieces that I made on Thursday. I made my first teapot: pumpkin inspiration, wheel and slab work. Then I made a honey pot with its own honey dipper. I fif dome sculptural work on the handle, which will be underglazed.

Update!

So much has been going on, some good, some not so good. School is out so I should be able to keep you updated a little more regularly.
In the meantime I am doing this double-walled, carved, textured bowl for a client.

Raku Awakening!

Sunday is over and I have just had two really good ones at a workshop for raku. We worked with crank, from the UK, a very groggy, toothy clay made for raku.
What I like about it is it rawness. It lends itself to earthy, textured designs; raw edges.
Here are the pieces I came away with, from horse hair to salt, to raku glaze and slip. I had a blast!

Tuesday!

Like a dog with a bone, when you got an idea in your head that won't let you alone you just got to work until it's out. It's not out yet but tonight I did these two bottle/vases and this cup for my nephew with the left over clay.
I love trying out new ideas and thoughts; all the images in my head.

Monday!

Went back to playing with the sodium silicate again. This time I mixed up a batch of slip a la John Britt and added some magnesium dioxide to achieve black.
I wanted to see what would happen if I made a deliberate design brfore I stretched it out. Here they are. One is a big bellied vase amd the other a storage jar. I have something special planned for the lid.

Here are some of the pieces I made. Can't wait for next Sunday going to be foing some naked raku and a piece with horse hair.

Work in Progress

Finally dusted off the paints and easel and dug out the brushes. Went to visit a friend yesterday and the driveway to her home has a canopy of cherries. Decided to take some pictures and I am using those as a reference for this painting.
Feels like I am just learning

New Work

Been doing a lot of interesting things. One of them is playing with an idea I have for a series of tall forms in porcelain with wide rims. Decided to try out the idea with a piece of left over earthenware clay. Since it's Mothers Day I entitled it "Ode to Mother"

Friday

Made a video tonight. Just needed to throw something; just to feel my hands in some clay. Sorry for the lighting. The filming was really an afterthought.

Pottery: Back to Blog!

Been playing around with all-in-one lidded jars (yo yo jars) I made this for my salt. Used a kitchen utensil to add the texture and made an 's' for the knob. Fun!

Playing Catch Up

Have not posted to my blog in a while- actually I have been very delinquent with my writing on a whole. But, I have not been lazing around. Let me fill you in on what's going on

Well the studio is 85% complete. Still to be done: painting and electrical and minor plumbing. That has not stopped work from being done.
 though.
sake bottles and cups

I am now the proud owner of not just a wheel but the kiln is home, waiting on electrical to hook it up.

cups done with experimental mishima
Right now I am working on an order for some large pots. I have had to put it on hold while I deal with my knee injury but I am determined to finish.

Here are pictures of what's been going on with the work
far left is one of the pieces from the order

here is another one from the order I am working on
